In this two days hands-on workshop we will learn ways to create rustic and organic forms on and off the wheel. We will start with making faceted yunomis and explore different ways to create rustic surfaces using slips, dry clays and sodium silicate. We will make bowls, plates and platters with organic edges and also delve into kurinuki carving to make asymmetrical pieces like ikebana vases, rock bowls. We will discuss glazing techniques that would help enhance the rustic look in cone 6 oxidation.
Student Requirements (materials to bring, necessary skills, etc): intermediate level throwing / handbuilding experience will be helpful. Bring your favorite tools, the basic clay tools will be provided.
$325 includes instruction, clay, and lunch will be provided for both days.
